The Mississippi River Basin Model provided the perfect backdrop for Movie Night at the Model. The event brought visitors to the model to view “Dream Big”, a movie that uses surprising human stories to expose the hidden world behind the most exciting inventions and structures across the world. It is not only a journey through engineering’s greatest wonders, but equally a tale of human grit, aspiration, compassion, and the triumph of human ingenuity over life’s greatest challenges. Visitors also had the opportunity to visit booths with STEM activities for ages K-8th grade and purchase refreshments from various food trucks on site.

May 12th Clean Up Day

May 19th Movie Night:  We are planning a special movie in the model night! We will host a movie and bonfire out at the model with a large projector. The date will be coming soon. If you are interested in serving on this committee email us!

June, July, August, and September Clean Up Days:TBD

September 5k, 10K Race: TBD: We will be hosting as a fundraiser a race through Buddy Butts Park. This race will be officially timed as a trail run. The trail which will be cleared by volunteers will take you through the mountain biking trails, into the model, and around the park. More information to come soon.

March 2nd – 3rd Mississippi Historical Mississippi Historical Society Conference. Our president Sarah McEwen will be a part of the panel forum and talking about historic preservation of the Mississippi Basin Model.

March 13th – April 25th AmeriCorp will be sending us a group of volunteers from March 13th to April 25th. This would provided up to a team of 8-12 people working 40 hours a week on the model clean up. We are very excited about this opportunity and will keep you posted on ways to help.
